Detailing for the project began in August ’07 and was finished on time in December ’07. The was a very demanding project to detail Units 3 and 4 with several separate segments structurally isolated by expansion joints, the booster fans, and the absorber vessel. The two units were mirror images of each other. The most difficult detailing was for a segment where internal trusses and splitter plates divided the duct work at different angles both horizontally and vertically. The inclusion of temporary steel, lifting lugs and their structural support added another dimension of complexity.

The ductwork had several shop and field splices. The shop splices and sizes of the parts assembled at the shop were affected by several factors, including the size of the shop doors. The segments will be assembled in Moran’s barging facility and then transported to the site.
