President's Report

Time is going by far too fast…so much is happening at Dowco, time just seems to fly by.  We just get started to embrace a new year when it seems December is upon us again.

We gained some much needed space in our Burnaby Office this year when we moved some staff members over to our new Langley/Surrey premises.   There are currently eighteen (18) in the new office, including some staff who moved over from our Whonnock Office and other new hires.  We plan to add 2700 square feet of new space to our Toronto Office in January, which will allow us to hire more staff there.   We are currently in negotiations to open an office in Quebec in January, 2007.   Our India office has recently hired 14 new detailers, bringing our total staff in India to forty-two (42).   By early 2007, our staff will number approximately 200, which will enable us to better serve our customers and add flexibility to our services.    We do not expect this number to stay at 200 as we will be continuing to add new staff to all of our offices.

Starting in January, Tekla Structures will be moved to a separate, new company called Dowco Technology Services Ltd.   This company will focus on the sales of Tekla products and will be available for new Research and Development opportunities.   The company will be headed by Ewen Dobbie, Dowco’s current Executive V.P.

In 2007, the new AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) web-based steel detailing course (Developed by Dowco ) will be launched, providing a much needed tool to teach the fundamentals of structural steel detailing.

We have experienced a productive year, and we look forward in 2007 to many more developments within the company.

Our sincere thanks to all Dowco staff for their efforts during 2006.  Without you, none of this would be possible.

Thanks also to our customers for showing faith in our abilities to handle their work to their satisfaction.

My wife Susan and I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year.
