Meet Our Staff

Perkin Leong
Macau, a small city in southern China often called the “Asian Monte Carlo,” was where I was born and where left my childhood memories. As a child I enjoyed watching my folded paper boats floating down a “river”. The “river” was actually flooding in the street in front of the place I lived and it would always happen after a heavy summer rainstorm. In autumn, my favorite hobby was to make and fly kites, controlling them from the three sq. ft. window on the second floor of my house. That window was the only light source in a 120 sq. ft. room where my whole family lived. I grew up in this environment, completing my secondary academic program with marks of honor.
Thirty-five years ago, my first job was in jewelry sales in the wholesale department of a large department store in Hong Kong, where I made many good friends. Though I did not want to leave this big family, after eight years I grew tired of sales and went on to fulfill my dreams as a designer.
While a junior draftsman in a design firm, I enrolled in a four year 3-D design program at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I spent four more years acquiring an interior design diploma and a business management diploma. I worked hard and was quickly promoted. In eight years I moved from entry level in the first firm to senior designer and director of my last interior design and contracting company. It was rewarding for me to be part of the last company’s growth. When I resigned, the company’s annual business turnover reached 20 million, 100 times more than when I had joined four years before.
Hong Kong was/is a famous modern city (the Eastern Pearl of Asia) whose economy in the 70’s and 80’s developed faster than most other big cities in the world. I thought everyone could turn his dream to reality if he worked hard and expanded his knowledge continually and by 1987, I could see the time was right for me to run my own business.
In 1992, our family immigrated to Vancouver. While my wife and two children lived here, I returned to Honk Kong as an “air man” for my business until 1996. But, missing my lovely “A” and “B”, Andy and Bonnie, my son and daughter, I decided to stay in this beautiful city with them. The first year, I spent researching the market here, but could not decide what to do. Then I studied steel detailing at VCC. Five weeks before graduation, Mr. Iain Brannen of NC Engineering offered me my first job. I made good friends there and learned a lot of practical detailing techniques.
In March 2000, I began work at Dowco as part of my long term goal. I realized the detailing field would be fully computerized in the near future and timing was right for the change. Another reason was to work with my love Patricia, who had a job in Dowco. We could drive one car to work and better arrange our spare time together.
Time flies. I have been with Dowco for seven years. Dowco has provided good conditions to work and learn with interesting software in detailing. I am proud to be a member of a well developed worldwide company. Our company has a long term goal, and with the rest of my co-workers, I would like to help turn it into reality.
In my spare time, I surf the internet. Other hobbies include swimming, playing badminton, reading and watching TV. Patricia and I also enjoy spending time together shopping and gardening in the summer.
