dowco.com News - Internet Explorer, Version 7.
by Edwin Parcero

IE7Microsoft has finally come out with their new web browser to replace the beta version that came out in the earlier in the year.   Right now, it's a separate download for Windows XP and above as part of the upgrades, but will become part of the Microsoft's upcoming Vista operating system.

The menu and button bars have been rearranged.  Some may like the new
set up, others won't.  The tabbed interface, a new feature for Internet Explorer 7, is similar to the one that Firefox, Mozilla and Opera already have.

IE7 still has some non-standard ways of rendering web pages.  And because of this, some websites may end up looking very different on IE7 compared with older versions of IE and also with non-IE browsers.  As a workaround, Microsoft suggests that sites need to update their detection code for IE7.

Even though there are some improvements, IE7 still does not offer full Cascading Style Sheets standards compatibility supported by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium).  It fails the Acid2 test (http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html) that's designed to
demonstrate standards compliance.  So far only Opera passed the test.  Mozilla Firefox is expected to comply with their next version.

IE7 includes Microsoft's new anti-phishing technology, designed to prevent users from providing personal data to fraudulent Web sites.   Each time you visit a site, the browser's phishing filter will check the URL against a list of known phishing sites and
a list of known legitimate sites.  It will simply block or allow the site depending on the match.  The list of known phishing sites will be updated using feedback from users.
