Tekla Structures - STAAD.Pro and the Canadian Timber Code
Arvin Eugenio Sales & Marketing
More and more engineers have considered wood and its use in construction. With the availability of many resources it always was advisable to consult with references and publications made by organizations such as the Canadian Wood Council, the Canadian Institute of Timber Construction and the Plywood Manufacturers Association of British Columbia. The Forest Products Laboratories of the Department of Forestry and Rural Development can provide the most data on Canadian woods and their properties, establishing most criteria used in timber design. Previous and ongoing discussions on wood have concluded that this material, despite its many forms can be used in as an acceptable product in engineering and construction.
Most if not all STAAD users have already received the first 2005 cd (Build 1001) and materials by this time. This installment will be followed up by another update disc (Build 1002) to which some of you were already recipients of recently. The difference between the Build 1002 and the earlier cd sent is that it includes the highly anticipated Canadian Standards Association: CSA 086, “Code of Recommended Practice for Engineering Design in Timber” on which the Wood Section of the National Building Code of Canada is based.
STAAD.Pro Build 1002 now serves as an effective tool for timber design specialists. Those who are keen to opening the code no longer need to consult their books as it is now incorporated in the 2005 version. Moreover, amateur users can now expertly design and work with wood as an engineering material by familiarizing themselves with this new feature in STAAD.
If you wish to try out the Build 1002 with Canadian Timber Code and have not yet received the update, you can download it by pointing your browser to:
