Meet Our Staff

Bret Crawley
Dowco Maple Ridge
Born and raised in the lower mainland, I have come to enjoy many aspects of west coast living - whether it’s cliff jumping in Lynn Canyon, snowboarding down Cypress Bowl, power boating across Skaha Lake, head banging at venues downtown, or dirt biking on Eagle Mountain. As long as it’s something that can get my heart pumping or perhaps bring it to a complete halt, sign me up. I love taking chances though I'd rather use the term calculated risks. One motto relevant to my lifestyle relates to a game of cards. I always say, "You can’t win if you don’t play." Besides thrill seeking behavior, I also enjoy non life-threatening hobbies, such as playing first person shooters, writing lyrics, going to the gym, or relaxing on the beach.
My cultural background is Ukrainian and Italian, which I credit for my hard work ethic and my addiction to great food. Certain traits of my personality have been either passed on from my elders or rubbed off from my siblings. I have my mother’s professionalism, my dad’s eye for a good deal, and my brother’s unique ability to show you something that you’ve never seen before. But it is truly the support and understanding from friends and family throughout the years that has undoubtedly been the back bone of my success.
Drafting has been a part of my life since a young age. My first experience began in Grade 8 taking wood working at Maillard Middle School. I recall drafting blue prints for my very own wooden whistle with those prehistoric T-squares and HB pencils. But it was not until my senior year at Centennial High School that I would get my first taste of computer aided drafting. After high school I took time off to experience the working world, only to realize that I would be stuck in a dead end job for the rest of my life if I didn’t further my education. So I signed up for the Structural Drafting and Design Program at BCIT in September of 2002. Upon completion of the program and after a month long work experience in steel detailing at Dowco, I was offered a full time position with the company. Now, at the young age of 22, I can say, "Yes, I do work in a cubical. But yes, I do have a career."
My favorite thing about being a draftsperson though, is my ability to take an idea from the depths of our minds, break it down, and express that vision in a logic that anyone can understand. I like to think of myself as an interpreter of imagination into creation.
