TEAM BC KAYAKER - Kristin Bauder
The kayaking season came to a formal end with Canoe Racing BC's annual Awards Banquet and Conference held at Kypriaki Norte, in Whistler, BC, in November. There, Dowco-sponsored kayaker, Kristin Bauder, was named Canoe Racing BC's Midget Female Athlete of the Year for her performances at the Canada Summer Games (Regina) and her performances at the Canadian National Championships (Montreal) in August.
Kristin was also awarded the "Premier’s Award". The Premier's Athletic Award recognizes the top male and female athletes from 48 eligible sports. Each athlete is nominated by their Provincial Sport Organization (PSO), based on outstanding performances during the competitive season. The intent of the Awards is to promote amateur sport in British Columbia and to recognize athletes from around the Province and their outstanding athletic achievements. Each athlete’s photograph and achievements are captured on a commemorative plaque which is displayed at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum for a year.
Kristin brought home Gold, Silver and Bronze medals from the Canada Games before winning a trio of Silver medals at the National Championships. Her performances in Montreal have secured her place on the Junior National Team for the upcoming year. She will be training hard in the New Year to obtain a spot on the European Tour in June 2006 with the long term goal of qualifying for the Junior World Championships in Perth, Australia, in 2007.
