Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC)

CISC BC Steel Design Awards

Each year the CISC, BC Region, hosts the annual BC Steel Design Awards, where local CISC member companies are invited to submit interesting projects on which they have worked in the last year.

Submitted projects must illustrate ingenuity and innovation in the use of structural steel or plate work.

You may recall that last year, the Chicago Millennium Park project designed by Frank Gehry that we at Dowco worked on won in the Engineering Category.

This year Dowco submitted two entries; The Denver Art Museum expansion (the Architectural category) and the Varsity Village Project (the Engineering Category.) We are happy to report that Dowco was the proud winner of the Engineering Category with the Varsity Village Project for the University of Cincinnati.

Unfortunately, once we had been notified we were winners, there was not enough time to invite the other team members on this project to the awards ceremony. Special thanks go to the University of Cincinnati, Architects, Glaserworks / Bernard Tschumi Architects, Engineers, THP Limited Inc, Fabricators, Steel Services Corporation, and General Contractor, Turner Construction Company for being a part of this very successful team effort.

We thank all those involved in the above mentioned projects. Special kudos to Dowco’s Project Manager, Sanjay Prasad and his Varsity Village Project team. Congratulations on a job well done.
