Project Report, Whonnock Office
Malcolm Muir

The entire office is working on the WA.MU Seattle Art Museum, which we are detailing for Canron.

The usual number of questions and revisions that we have come to expect these days on projects have indeed materialized throughout the progress of this job, although to be fair, a large percentage of these have occurred in the lower levels, which are notoriously difficult areas in high rises.

Cooperation between the various members of the team however, could not be better. Questions directed to Mr. Mike Wall at Canron, relating to connection design, for example, are routinely answered within hours, if not minutes and Sellen have a first class group of people on site, who are managing to stay on top of innumerable issues.

Our own Mike Mantil is also doing a masterful job of staying on top of the many, many pieces of information that cross his desk on a daily basis, and need to be distributed at the correct time to the right people, in order to maintain the most efficient continued production of drawings.

Project Report, Burnaby Office
Rick Station

The Burnaby Office is in the process of finishing several ongoing Projects by the year end. FDIC Virginia Square for Hirschfeld Steel is now in its final stages, as well as the last Building “Club House” on the Hummingbird Lodge Project for Afco.

On the University of Cincinnati Varsity Village, Sanjay Prasad and his crew have sent all drawings for approval and are now reviewing the remaining approval comments before final shop issue. It has been a pleasure working with Steel Services on this Unique Project. We hope this new relationship continues into the future.

The Park City Baptist Church for North Texas Steel is in its final stages of detailing, with Approval drawings coming back on the earlier Sequences. Wojtek Jablkowski and his staff are working very hard to turn these turn around for shop issue.

It also looks like Joe McDonald’s team will finally complete the Qualcom Building for Schuff Steel West Coast by the middle of December. This has been especially challenging due to the number of major revisions that have been ongoing throughout this Project.

Doug McGillivray and Brian Spiess are working very hard and closely with Schuff Steel on the Westgate City Center E & G Buildings. The tight schedule and quality of the Engineering drawings are making this very challenging. We really appreciate the effort being put in by all the people involved.

The Phoenix Convention Center for Havens Steel is now finally beginning to make some headway. With the number of revisions, RFI’s being generated and quality of the Engineering drawings, it looks like our team headed by Wojtek Jablkowski and Nick Rakic are now getting on top of these issues.

In late October, we were awarded The Valley Metro Rail Buildings for Hirschfeld Steel. It is good to be working with Jon Vinson again. This Project is just getting up to speed.

We have also been awarded the Goldman Sachs HQ by the Yolles Partnership to create a model for this 45 Storey High Rise. This is our first time working with Yolles for some time and we are working very closely with them to help develop the model and make this Project a successful venture

Project Report, Toronto Office
Mark Staples

The final quarter for 2004 has us looking forward to the merger with TSD. With the addition of their valuable resources, we can continue to provide improving and additional services to our clients.

Projects recently completed and ongoing are listed below.

On the George Steel 860-ton OSU Mechanical Engineering Building project, the shop issuing of drawings after return of approval has been challenging, and a chore to incorporate all of the design changes made at approval. “Hats off” to all the staff involved who made it possible to complete this huge task.

The detailing the 1350-ton UPENN – School of Veterinary Medicine for Helmark Steel Inc. will be completed before the Christmas holidays. An aggressive schedule on this project has been handled with great vigor by all involved.

For Canron Western Constructors INC, we are well into the detailing of the 1000 ton United States Courthouse project located in Eugene Oregon. A terrific job done by the entire team on this project.

I would like to take this time to wish everyone and their families all the best for the Holiday Season and into the coming New Year.
