Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) B.C. Region 2004 Design Awards of Excellence
The B.C. Region of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) held their 2004 Steel Design Awards of Excellence on October 28, 2004 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver.
A number of detailing companies have not renewed partly because they question the value of their membership in the organization. With high membership fees and no assurance they will be the detailer of choice with CISC fabricators still selecting the low(est) cost supplier, there is little incentive for them to join. It was suggested by some present that fabricators should at least advise their non-CISC subcontract detailers that they must be members of the CISC. This is a hot topic, and sure to be discussed further at next year’s convention in Quebec.
In the past, the CISC Awards were presented for B.C. projects submitted by fabricators only. Later this was expanded and fabricators were allowed to submit international projects. This year for the first time, detailers were also allowed to submit international projects. Dowco entered a submission on the Millennium Park Chicago Illinois project in both the Architectural and Engineering categories and we were pleased to win the Award of Excellence in the Engineering category. We were pleased to have Mr. Chris Rockey from Skidmore, Owings and Merrill attend to accept the award with us.
