Dowco Sponsorship - Winning Over 38 Scotland Team (Soccer)

Dowco recently sponsored the Scotland teams in the July 27th 2006 Annual Nations Cup Soccer Tournament in Richmond BC.  The Nations Cup is a cultural festival that brings together soccer players from all over BC (and overseas) to play for their country of origin.  Teams compete in a spirit of sportsmanship displaying their own cultural and ethnic flair.  The event produces quality soccer and provides a fun atmosphere for the entire family.  The timing of this year’s event tied in perfectly with the World Cup of Soccer held in Germany, with everyone involved playing in their own mini World Cup.

This year Canada, India, China, Fiji, Greece, Argentina, Italy, England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, First Nations, Croatia, the Caribbean, Korea, Portugal and the USA took part in the men’s and women’s competitions.   The men’s group comprised  an Open Men’s division, Over-30’s, Over 38’s and Over 45’s.  Dowco sponsored the Scotland team in the Men’s Open, Over-30’s and Over-38’s.

In the Open division, the Scotland team competed well, but eventually fell to India in the semi-finals.  The Over-30’s had a tough time in the round-robin section after several players went down early with injuries.   Canada, the eventual winner represented their group in the final.  The Over-38’s on the other hand faced China in the final and were able to pull off an exciting 2-1 victory before a large crowd of partisan China and Scotland supporters.  In the end it was a great weekend of fun, friendship and soccer with many participants renewing acquaintances and sharing stories.
