Project Report, Burnaby Office
Malcolm Muir

The Panama Museum project remains on hold, but not cancelled. We are confident the project will be re-started soon, and look forward to renewing our contact with the architectural team at Frank O. Gehry Associates and the engineers at Magnusson, Klemencic Associates.

The two Hirschfeld Steel projects are still lurking around the office. The FDIC Virginia Square project is moving, but slowly, while the Park Cities Baptist Church project has been on hold for about two months.

The Hummingbird Lodge project for Afco Steel has posed challenges for everyone involved: a complicated roof structure and RFI issues, compounded by the holiday period have combined to elevate this to one of the most difficult projects we have encountered in some time.

The University of Michigan School of Public Health, for CBN Steel Construction Inc., has progressed satisfactorily and Sanjay Prasad and his team are also making good progress, after a slow start due to connection issues, on the University of Cincinnati Varsity Village for Steel Services Corporation

Joe McDonald and his team are working through the Qualcom Building for Bannister Steel; another project that has been subject to mass revision – twice, to date. We have been awarded a second project, a Nordstrom Store, from North Texas Steel, which is being looked after by Wojtek Jablkowski and his crew.

The latest project started is the Phoenix Convention Center Expansion for Havens Steel. This is our first project with Havens and we look forward to a mutually satisfactory collaboration.

Maple Ridge

The University of Virginia Sports Arena for Hirschfeld Steel is in its final stages. We have a few people working on final revisions from approval comments and shop issuing. However, there is the prospect of further revisions, so it’s possible this may be included in the next report.

The remainder of the office staff is working on the WA.MU Seattle Art Museum, which we are detailing for Canron. The final issue of design drawings is due shortly and we hope, with the release of the 100% set, that we will be able to maintain forward progress instead of going back over things already done.

Project Report, Toronto Office
Mark Staples, VP Production, Ontario

The end of summer has the Toronto office wrapping up some projects and starting some new ones.

For Canam Manac the detailing for the renovation and expansion to The Pier at Caesars in Atlantic City is near completion after numerous changes.

The 650-ton Grand Aspen project for Zimkor LLC has been recently completed.

For George Steel we have completed detailing of their 860-ton OSU Mechanical Engineering Building project.

We have recently begun the detailing the 1350-ton UPENN – School of Veterinary Medicine for Helmark Steel Inc.
