Meet Our Staff

Wieslaw (Wes) Pieczarka
Dowco Maple Ridge

I was born and raised in Gliwice City in the heavy industrial area, south of Poland, called Silesia. My father was an engineer, designing steel mills for Eastern European countries (Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary). He worked for the same company for 30 years, the last 20 as a project manager.

In 1983, I graduated from the Silesian Technical University as an architect. Before and after graduation, I worked for various companies, starting with the Construction Company, and ending with work in the City Hall of Jastrzebie City. Jastrzebie is an industrial town with a population of 200,000, and 5 coal mines. At City Hall, I began as a building inspector and eventually became deputy City Architect. After his resignation, I was asked to fill his position and did the job for a year, but was not officially appointed because I didn’t belong to The Communist Party. The City Mayor and the City First Secretary of the Party made a great effort to force me to join but I didn’t because of my principals. The pressure involved and the feeling that it wasn’t my career choice was the main reason I decided to leave my country.

I stayed a year in Austria, and married my lovely wife Margaret, who joined me in my journey. After we came here 15 years ago, I worked as an artist for a glass company, designing carved and etched glass. Then, as coordinator and architectural products technician, I did shop drawings for tempered glass. In 2000, I finally found a job that gave me satisfaction and pleasure, with Dowco.

I have a beautiful family, which consists of a daughter and a son who were born here. We love to spend time together. In summer, we are usually camping or siteseeing, but in the winter, I enjoy skiing with my kids. We are pleased with our house in Maple Ridge, We love living in the Vancouver area and are proud to call Canada our home.
