Kristin Bauder
Dowco-sponsored Fort Langley Canoe Club kayaker Kristin Bauder has had a busy summer of regattas. The competitive season began with the BC Championships in Kamloops, and the Canada Day Regatta in Regina, Saskatchewan. As a result of her performance in Saskatchewan, Kristin was selected to paddle for Canada in the Canada Cup International Regatta, held July 24th and 25th in Ottawa. Canada Cup International is an international regatta open to qualifying athletes and is designed to introduce younger athletes to international competition as a development opportunity. Kristin teamed up with four other paddlers her age from other regions of Canada to race against athletes from Canada, the United States, Mexico and New Zealand. She returned with four gold medals and a silver medal. The Western Canadian Championships in Calgary, August 13th, 14th saw her bring home five gold and one silver. Her season continued with local regattas in Maple Ridge and Nanaimo and will finish with the Canadian National Championships to be held Sept 1-4 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
A couple of years ago we sponsored a young Canadian swimmer, Brent Hayden, a friend and neighbour of our staff member Patrick Salitra. Brent qualified for the Olympics in Athens this year and it has been exciting to watch him compete for Canada. Unfortunately he didn’t place but he is very young, and the experience gained may stand him in good stead for the next Olympics in Beijing. We are pleased to have had a small part in encouraging this fine young athlete to work towards his goal and represent his country.
