I was born and raised in Scotland, the youngest of four children. During those early years, I spent much of my time on the soccer field. After graduation from high school, I accepted a position as an apprentice draftsman with a structural engineering company in Glasgow, Scotland. It was during this time I turned from playing soccer to officiating the sport, graduating as a member of the Scottish Football Referees’ Association in 1979.

During an economic downturn in Britain in the early eighties, I took the valuable work experience I had gained and accepted an opportunity to come and live and work in Canada. My first Canadian employment position began with Ontario Hydro.

Over the years, I have a built a solid knowledge of the industry working with most of the major companies in the Toronto area. During this time, I was also able to gain experience working with N.C. Engineering in Vancouver. It was a wonderful time experiencing West Coast living.

I began working with Dowco in May 2002. Working for Dowco’s Mississauga office has, for me, opened the window of opportunity to the future of steel detailing.

I look forward to helping increase the company’s position in the structural steel industry and would like to, at this time, thank all of my colleagues here for their support since my arrival.
