From the desk of the Excutive VP

This year marks Dowco’s thirty seventh (37th) year in business.  Originating from the dining room table of our family home, the company has systematically grown to become one of the largest, if not the largest, steel detailing companies in the world.

Over the course of the last three decades, we have seen the industry change as dramatically as has the role of the steel detailer.  Gone are the days of manual drafting - even 2D CAD drafting scarcely exists.  Today we live in the 3D world, a collaborative world of sophisticated use of 3D modeling, communication and building information extraction.

At Dowco, we like to think it has been ‘change’ that has really been the only constant.  Company President, Hugh Dobbie has continued his search for ways to separate ourselves from our competitors.  The major turning points for us are easy to identify today many years later.  There was of course, our early entry into the world of CAD in 1981, then came that very significant jump to 3D modeling with Tekla in 1985, and then becoming North America’s first detailing company certified by ISO further ensured our commitment to excellence and a quality product for our customers, thereby raising the industry standard yet again.  Leading the industry way is Dowco’s way.

For Dowco over that time, there have also been some constants:  Hugh Dobbie’s unwavering commitment to the steel industry, his unrelenting determination to raise both the value and profile of the steel detailer, and the support of our employees - one in particular.

Thirty-five years has passed since Ken Mussato joined our company.  Ken has been with us since the early days of struggle, through the lean depression years that periodically plague our industry, and he has experienced all the company's ups and downs.   Now our VP of Quality Management, Ken is responsible for maintaining Dowco’s ISO quality for all Dowco production offices.  He also plays a critical role in managing and coordinating the production efforts of our Kolkata, India DowcoMax operation.  There's not much in the company that Ken hasn't had a hand in, including input into the early major decision in the 1980s to computerize our company.

Thanks to Ken for his dedication, hard work, and support of Dowco over the years.    As a token of our thanks, Executive VP Ewen Dobbie presented Ken with a certificate of appreciation for his 35 years with Dowco, and the company will be sending Ken and his partner on a trip/cruise holiday of their choice.  The question we are all asking is….will it be another trip to his Italian homeland or _?

Wherever, we wish Ken happy traveling and repeat again our thanks and appreciation for his contribution to the company.
