Toronto Office Report

The lease-hold improvements for an additional 2,700 sq. ft of new office space has been completed, and many thanks go to Philip J. Young for his recent trip to the office here to relocate our servers and connect our network cables.  A new lunch room for this office will allow most employees to relax and enjoy lunch away from their work stations.   We  plan to move our board room, training room and make space for a lounge or game room soon.  This office is looking to hire an additional 10 plus employees in the very near future.

Goldman Sachs – All missing dimensions and information have been received, problems resolved, and every effort has been made by Don Shaver and his crew to expedite drawings for approval and fabrication.   The crew are currently concentrating on completing the 13th Mezzanine and 14th Floor. With help from Burnaby office, we anticipate bringing this project back on schedule.

North Texas Toll Way Canopies – The long awaited design changes have materialized and with thanks again to Don Shaver and his crew, we are implementing these changes to the columns, trusses, support arms and brackets as quickly as possible to keep the project on schedule for erection of the framing this summer.

Fedex Hangar – Inconsistencies and conflicting information on design drawings delayed the progress of this project, but compliments are due to Eva Pohoriljakova and her group for moving this job along relatively well.  The Hangar comprises 75% of this project.  Connections will soon be complete and will keep us busy until this summer.

Philadelphia Children’s Hospital – Central Utility Plant is the next round of the additional work awarded to us late last year, while drawings were out for approval. The surveyor’s report indicates all existing columns are significantly out of plumb. Evaluation is underway to assess the amount of rework needed to suit existing conditions.  The Service Building is well underway and Frank Collins’crew with help from DowcoMax, are hoping to have this project completed by early July.

We would like to thank everyone at DowcoMax for a job well done.

Project Report, Montreal Office
Gerard Courrier

One Brian Park ( Owen Steel ):
After 16 months we finally completed the antenna, a 200 member job. The job was delayed for 13 months waiting for RFI’s and we had to work overtime in order to deliver the project by the dates requested by the owner.
The screen wall is completed and in fabrication. This was much more complicated than first estimated since nothing was ninety degrees. The shop probably experienced the same thing since we had two shop calls on one bent but they were one week apart.

Diabetes & Glandular Clinic ( Alamo Steel ):
Project completed for this new client.  Approval took 12 weeks to come back and was expected in shop in the same week.

Petro-Canada ( Supreme Steel ):
We completed this project also. It was very awkward to have a bolted / bolted job done but with all the sub-materials detailed independently and field assembled.

Mineracao Onca Puma ( Hatch ):
This is our first job directly from an engineering firm.  We anticipated cutting down on revisions but we only got them faster, since there is no general contractor.  We are working with the detailers of Hatch’s Montreal and Mississauga offices. This is the first 10,000 ton building of many more to come. We hope to finish in time in spite of the many revisions so we can be on the team doing the others.

John Jay College ( Owen Steel ):
This 5,000 ton project was framed by DowcoMax and we are modeling and detailing it here in Montreal. The detailing and erection of this job is special since the perimeter bays of the last ten floors are hung from the roof trusses. There are no horizontal beams on all of these floors due to the camber needed prior to having the trusses fully loaded.

Project Report, Kolkata Office
Executive VP

Despite the obvious challenges of running a business thousands of miles and a world away, the DowcoMax operation is now in full steam.  Full steam ahead, in fact.  At present, we are currently undergoing another recruitment drive to replace recently vacated positions, and to expand our existing team.  Dowco Max CEO, Jyoti Chatterjee has made repeated trips to India over the last few months to facilitate the interview and hiring process and to establish the required infrastructure needed to accommodate another 15 staff.

We can now report that with 54 staff in our Kolkata office, Dowco Consultants Ltd’s global staff across all six offices totals 214.

In addition to drawing extracting duties, the DowcoMax operation has recently expanded their service offering to include connecting.  We currently have 12 connectors in DowcoMax assisting Dowco’s domestic production offices.  In time, and as work allows,  these numbers will incresase.

With the amount of work on hand, we are able to send approximately 7500 hrs worth of work per month to the DowcoMax office.  All project work/tasks sent to DowcoMax are still managed 100% by Dowco’s North American offices and Dowco Consultants Ltd’s VP Quality Manager, Ken Mussato continues to monitor the quality of work produced from each office.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to growing the company to meet the increasing market demands, and especially to maintaining our ISO Quality standard, and our reputation in the industry as producers of a quality product.

Lastly, we would all like to extend our congratulations and very best wishes to DowcoMax staff member Soumitra Bag on the happy occasion of his upcoming wedding this month.
