Project Report, Burnaby Office
Rick Station

The erection of The Vancouver Convention Centre for Canron is in full swing. The Eastern portion of the Convention Centre is 100% connected and detailed except for some miscellaneous Soffit and Partition steel which is still being sorted out.  We are well into connecting and detailing the Western portion of the Convention Centre model.  Wojtek Jablkowski and his crew have now been working on this Project for close to 21 months and have at least another 6 months left to complete the West.

The 4600 Ton Sprint Center in Kansas City for Schuff Steel Midwest is in the final stages of erection. Thanks go to Earl Horton at Schuff Mid-West and Paul Devereux at Mortenson. It has been a pleasure working with you both.

We have finally completed Area 3 on the 40,000 ton Goldman Sachs Headquarters in New York City for DCM Erectors.  Tony Han and Ken Mussato’s crew are now jumping in to lend a hand in Area #4 (the Tower portion) which our Toronto office has been working on.

The 10,000 Ton Sandow 5 Power Plant for the Bechtel Power Corporation that Sanjay Prasad is heading up with help from Steven Chang is approximately 65% through. This very fast Track Project has put our staff to task and they all have risen to the challenge. Well done!

Unfortunately our other Bechtel Power Corporation Project - the 120,000 Ton TXU Power Plant - has been cancelled due to environmental issues.  John Chai’s crew were working on this Project, but have now turned their attention to lending Sanjay Prasad’s crew help to complete the Sandow 5 Power Plant.

The Panama Museum of Biodiversity headed by Don Adair is now back on again. The model has been updated to Tekla Structures version 11.3 from when the project was started back in 2003 using version 9.0.  We are well underway updating and revising connections to suit the new fabricators now on board.

The North American economy is still humming along quite nicely with everyone in the industry very busy. The signs are very encouraging for 2007 and 2008.

Project Report, Whonnock Office
Malcolm Muir

The entire Whonnock office is still working on the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino project located in Las Vegas, which we are doing for Schuff Steel in Phoenix.

This project has continued to present a challenge to everyone involved, from the engineer through the GC to the fabricator, to us and even to the erector.

We have involved the Langley office initially with two of the sequences, but just lately that has been increased to 3 due to the huge number of revisions involved in the work being done by Whonnock.  They are a very welcome addition to the team and are doing a sterling job.  Keep it up guys, we need you.

As noted in previous reports, this is fairly straightforward construction with a reasonable mix of elements, but what is likely to happen is that a great deal of the revisions may end up being done as fieldwork, which as we all know can be more difficult and tim- consuming than straightforward shop revisions.

We continue to have excellent results from our colleagues in our India office, considering the difficulties they face in juggling the number of projects they handle on a daily basis.

Project Report, Surrey Office
Iain Brannen

The Tulsa Event Center Arena continues to present its own unique set of challenges with regards to detailing and scheduling.

The complexity of this project has resulted in a substantially higher than normal quantity of requests for information (RFI’s) and Connection Design Questions (CDQ’s) which have been produced.

This extra work load has adversely affected our scheduling progress on this project. Dowco continues to focus on our delivery dates and all assigned personnel are working very hard towards these dates.

The project web cam shows the erected steel to date in sequences # 10, #12, and while there have been a few minor erection problems the progress is quite impressive. (Web site address is www.vision2025.info/camera.php?camera=arenacamera)

As the project progresses from shop drawings into shop production and field erection Dowco would like to thank the other team members at Schuff and National Erecters for there ongoing assistance and efforts with this project.
