Meet Our Staff

Michael Ni
Born into a family of teachers, I was raised in the prosperous city of Shanghai, the largest city in China and its economic centre. My parents, parents-in-law and sister-in-law are all teachers, and my wife and I also were teachers before we left China.
At age twenty, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Railway University. I was offered a lecturer position at the same university after I earned my Masters Degree there three years later. For seven years, I did research and development in rail/wheel system dynamics and designed the suspension system for high speed railway vehicles as well as for laboratory experiments on related projects. During that time, I also lectured on such courses as Mechanical Dynamics, Reliability Engineering in the Mechanical Engineering Department.
Early 1993, I moved to Japan as an international student studying at Kyushu University. I did research work in the area of friction vibration, which helped improve the performance of the disk break system for Toyota cars.
To seek new challenges, my family immigrated to Canada in 1997.
My first detailing job was with Paramount Detailing in 1997. Starting from manual drawing then AutoCAD, I slowly learned the skills of detailing. After Paramount closed, I worked with a small detailing company for a brief period of time.
I was hired by Dowco early in 2004. From that moment until now and even into the future, I really appreciate working here. The wonderful people that I meet daily, always smiling, always helping, are truly an inspiration to be with. I enjoy the X-steel technology I work with everyday and the challenges it provides. I am proud to be part of this amazing company.
I married my wife in Shanghai while she was a teacher at the same university. We have a son Jack, born in China and a daughter Jessica, born here in Vancouver. The greatest gift that Canada has given me is my daughter. Jack and Jessica are my pride and joy. I enjoy spending vacations in Shanghai, experiencing the economic boom taking place there, comparing it to what it was like when I was still small.
