Meet Our Staff

Aurelio Bagtas Jr.
Dowco Burnaby
I was born in Pampanga, a northern province of the Philippines in 1970, the eldest of four siblings and named for my father, who is a bowling technician as well as a contractor. Engineering was actually my father’s dream for me, having high regard for the engineers in his workplace. My own dream was to become a doctor. Nevertheless, I learned to love my profession.
I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering at Adamson University in 1992. That same year I passed the engineering licensure examination to become a member of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers. I started as a Junior Design Engineer in 1992 at Q.C.S.I. Consultancy , an engineering company specializing in structural design, and with hard work and dedication, ended up Supervising Engineer. I was hired by KTA Tenaga, Malaysia as a design engineer in 1995. Then followed Geahin Engineering Berhad, a turning point in my career, where I started detailing. From then on I have worked as a structural steel detailer. When NC Engineering hired me as a foreign steel detailer in 2001, this was a breakthrough not only for my career but also for my family life. Convinced that Canada would be a great second home for us, my wife (a former school teacher) and my daughter immigrated here with me.
I moved to Dowco Consultants in January of 2004. In my two years here, I have had the opportunity to advance my knowledge through TEKLA Structures; needless to say, with the help and support of the many friendly colleagues who are not only my mentors, but my friends as well.
In my spare time, I play soccer with my colleagues, especially during summer. Most of the time, I just enjoy being a father to my daughter , Loree Mae and being a buddy to my wife Dominga. Nothing gives me more pleasure than this.
