Project Report, Whonnock Office Malcolm Muir
The WA.MU Seattle Art Museum, which we are detailing for Canron, is nearing final completion. This project (featured elsewhere in this issue) has been in progress for just over a year, and at times has had its challenges.
It has been however, on the whole, a very enjoyable project with regard to the people we have been working with both at Canron and Sellen (the GC), and I would like to thank them for their cooperation and commitment, and to express the hope that we will get together again on future projects.
We have recently begun a new job for Schuff Steel, which promises to be every bit as challenging and enjoyable. It is a Primary Sulfide Project located in Peru and engineered by Fluor here in Vancouver.
For those of you who have been with us long enough, you may remember the Freeport Indonesia Project, which we worked on for Fluor back in the early 90’s.
This project is very similar, and many of the people at Fluor with whom we worked at that time are involved again on this one.
We are also working once more with Structural Consultants Incorporated, who did such a sterling job for us on the Denver Art Museum, and who are again providing us with the connection design.
Project Report, Burnaby Office Rick Station
The Burnaby Office is presently wrapping up several Projects in the next month…Westgate City Center E & G Buildings for Schuff Steel, The Valley Metro Rail Buildings for Hirschfeld Steel and the Qualcomm Building ‘W’ for Schuff Steel-West Coast. All these Projects have had extensive revisions which have greatly extended their completion dates
The Phoenix Convention Center for Havens Steel is beginning its final stages. 75% of the Shop drawings are now on paper and hopefully by June the main contract will be complete with all the extras to follow. Even with the number of revisions, RFI’s being generated and quality of the Engineering drawings, our team headed by Woytek Jablkowski and Nick Rakic are doing an outstanding job keeping things on track.
We have been awarded The North Shore Hebrew Academy from Super Metal. This is our first contract with Super Metal even though our relationship goes back many years. Joe McDonald and his team are working diligently to maintain a very tight schedule. We look forward to working together on this Project and hopefully many more to come.
Sanjay Prasad and crew have successfully completed (except for some Approval returns) the Texas Instruments New Fab 1 Bldg for North Texas Steel. Thanks again to Bill Gigl for having faith in choosing Dowco to meet this demanding schedule.
Malcolm Muir is heading up the 14,000 Ton Cerro Verde Project for Schuff Steel. This is another job of Fluor Engineers, with whom we have had many successful ventures. The Project is headed up by Malcolm Muir and done mainly in our Whonnock Office with additional help on the Grinding Building coming from Sanjay Prasad’s Burnaby team.
We have been and continue to detail different modules with M & D Drafting for Waiward Steel on the OPTI Canada Long Lake Upgrader Project located in Alberta.
With the Qualcomm Building ‘W’ in its final stage and the great job Joe McDonald and Allan Gliege have done, Schuff Steel-West Coast has just awarded Dowco the Hall and Lobby for Qualcomm Building ‘N’. Thanks again to Steve Carroll for choosing Dowco.
Project Report, Toronto Office

The TSD move into the Dowco Mississauga office went without a hitch and was completed in late November of 2004. The Mississauga office has now been boosted to one big happy family of 33 employees.
We can now continue to provide and improve on services to our clients with our qualified and talented team of detailers and checkers.
Lingering projects for Helmark, Canron Western Construction Inc. and George Steel have been completed with the exception of the U.S. Courthouse for Canron Western Construction Inc., which is at its final stage. This building will be completed soon with continued hard work from the staff on this project.
TSD successfully completed part of the New York Grand Avenue Bus Depot project for Owen Steel Company. Congratulations to project manager Don Shaver and his crew on another superb job well done.
We have been fortunate to have landed a large portion of New York’s One Bryant Park project from Owen Steel Company. One Bryant Park is a 56 storey high building with a 960 feet antenna on top and is located at the corner of 6th Ave and 42nd Street in the heart of Manhattan.
This project led by Don Shaver has had many changes and much paper work. However we are aggressively sorting through it all to make this another successful project with Owen Steel Company.
The Harvard FAS Northwest Labs in Boston, MA is the next successful bid with Ocean Steel. Modeling has just begum and will continue well into the summer. Harvard FAS Northwest Labs is a 3,300 ton project located in Cambridge, MA near Boston.
