North American Steel Construction Conference
The North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) held in Montreal in April, is one of the highlight conferences of the year for those in the steel industry. As well as providing excellent opportunities for networking, the conference is packed with seminars, short courses, lectures and an exciting exhibit hall.
There were forty-eight seminars in total, but scheduling made it possible to attend only seven. I chose “Improving Detailing Business Practices;” “Selling Value not Cost in Detailing;” “Legal Issues for Detailers: Proper Noticing, Documentation and Contract Preparation;” “What you Should and Shouldn’t Sign - A Critical Look at Contract Clauses;” “The EDI Business Model – A Look at the New COSP Appendix;” “Recommended Standards of Practice for RFIs.” Material from these seminars will be used in our training sessions with project managers.
Our Dowco booth was busy, as always, and provided a meeting place for many of our customers and associates. Next year it may be an idea to provide more seating to allow for clients to rest their weary feet.
The Conference Dinner on Thursday night, always a chaotic evening it seems, provided further opportunities to network.
Full conference proceedings and copies of the papers can be obtained from my office.
