Meet Our Staff  Billie Zhang Dowco Burnaby I was born in Beijing and grew up there with my elder brother and parents. My father was a diplomat, my mother a researcher on international relationships. After university graduation, I taught telecommunication courses in college in Beijing for several years. Sixteen years ago, my husband and I moved to Canada and settled down in Vancouver. Two years later, our lovely daughter Sarah was born. My husband Raymond is a biomedical statistician working for the BC Cancer Research Centre. In the early years of my life in Canada, I took various jobs as electronic technician, accounting clerk and office manager before I settled on my ideal career, steel detailing. I completed the steel detailing program at VCC in 1999 and gained the fundamentals of detailing techniques. Luckily I was hired by Dowco right after graduation. Having worked here for more than five years, I’ve learned a lot of skills from my co-workers, checkers and project leaders by finishing one project after another. I love my job and also enjoy being a member of this company. I used to have many hobbies…swimming, playing volleyball, playing badminton and skating to name a few. However nowadays I have too many excuses for not doing them anymore. Not that I am too old! For I have started to ski and love it. My knee was twisted last snow season but I still enjoy skiing nevertheless, and have gone up the mountain almost every weekend this past winter.
