I was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq’s beautiful capital.  My father was a high ranking army officer, my mother a high school principle, and I have two brothers and three sisters.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Baghdad.  During my studies I worked in various Architecture firms.  After graduation I joined the army (mandatory) for three years, and worked as consultant and site engineer on several military buildings.

When I left the army to follow my own career, I established a small firm with two colleagues from university to design and construct residential and commercial buildings. We did well until the first Gulf War in 1991 and things changed dramatically, and because of circumstances in Iraq, I left with my family for Jordan.

In Jordan I worked as site engineer with a construction company for highways and buildings.  I lived there four years, until 1998, when I had the opportunity to immigrate to Canada.  When I arrived I worked for two years for a company installing security systems, then I heard about Dowco’s course for x-Steel detailing from a friend.  I enrolled in the course in Jan.2002, and after finishing it successfully, was hired for Dowco’s Whonnock office.  I enjoy being part of a team, especially when I learn new things every day, with the help of my experienced co-workers.
