In May 2003, Hugh Dobbie Sr. presented a paper at the North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) in Baltimore, entitled “Detailing Practices Good and Bad.”

Hugh was asked to repeat this presentation at the Twenty-Eighth Structural Seminar sponsored by the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, South Dakota State University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in November that same year.

The paper was eventually published in the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) “Engineering Journal”.

In a poll of the Journal’s readers, the paper was voted the best of those published in the year 2004.
Hugh received a plaque commemorating the award at the NASCC in Montreal in April. All Dowco staff members have received a copy of the paper to read.
