Meet Our Staff
A long time ago, I was born in Winnipeg but very quickly realized that I would rather live in Montreal, so my family moved and that’s where I grew up. Living in Montreal during its glory days was fantastic. The Worlds Fair in ’67, the Summer Olympics in ’76 and oh… those Stanley Cups.
Like most detailers of my generation, I started at Dominion Bridge. Being an office boy in Dominion Bridge meant getting coffee and sandwiches for the guys, running to the print room and learning how to print by writing dozens of practice sheets. How times have changed! During my years of employment with various companies, certain experiences stand out in my memory. I worked at the Mt. Wright Iron Mine near Labrador, producing as-built drawings, and had snow in August. I took a training course on AutoCAD Version 1.9 in Vermont. AutoCAD, at that time, used 5 ¼” floppies that you had to swap at various times during a session. Once, on a business trip for an R&D company, I had seven airline flights in eight days. One of them was on a plane so small that when I checked in, the passenger agent, who I think was also the co-pilot, asked me how much I weighed.
During the recession of the early ‘90’s, I was lucky enough to obtain an eighteen month contract on a little project called “Hibernia”. I was employed as a 3-D modeler and using PDS software, modeled approximately 10,000 tons on two of the topsides modules. Eighteen months turned into three years with unlimited overtime, not bad during a recession, and I won’t forget working with Norwegian Marine Architects, whom I consider to be some of the smartest people on the planet.
A few years later an opportunity to work in Toronto presented itself and I managed to convince my wife that our future was there, even though she would have to leave her family, with whom she is very close. I used SDS2 for three years and then a phone call from an old friend led me to talk to Hugh Dobbie. I started my employment with Dowco 2 ½ years ago. I presently live in Georgetown with my beautiful wife Dini, our 8 year old son Mitchell, and Hannah, our 10 year old yellow labrador. I enjoy canoeing, camping, and cooking when I am not at work and of course, I enjoy a good day of golf!
