Project Report : Ontario Office
Charlie Jenks, Office Manager (Toronto)
It has been a busy start to 2010. We have found that some of our large projects are coming to an end and we are picking up some smaller projects from both new and existing customers. As is usual with smaller projects, the challenges increase while the schedules are much more demanding. However this can also make work much more rewarding when deadlines are met and quality is maintained. Our work continues on the following projects;
RIM Building C&D - ACL Steel Ltd. – While building 'C' is erected and 'D' nearly complete, the revisions are coming in. Field work and new steel being worked on has kept this project busy for two staff members. With the great leadership at ACL, Tino Dos Santos and Steve Patterson's hard work and long hours, we have been able to keep up with the challenges to keep this project running smooth.
Antenna – World Trade Center – DCM Erectors – Frank Collins' group continues to work on this project. With the majority of work complete, a few RFI's remain to keep us from completing this project.
Area 3 & 6 – World Trade Center – DCM Erectors – This project is moving along at a good pace. Orly has been kept busy with minor changes and approvals throughout area 3. Eva's crew, working in Area 6 containing floors 81 to 100, continues to move along. With images being sent to the office showing on-site progress, the entire office is excited to see their hard work take shape.
Below is some new projects that we are working on;
National Enrichment Facility Bldg 1003 – Hirschfeld Steel Group – In the past I have noted how much we enjoyed working with Hirschfeld on the NEF project. We were all very pleased when we found out we had the opportunity to start another structure within the NEF, Building 1003. This is our fourth contract with Hirschfeld on the structures within the National Enrichment Facility and hopefully it is not the last.
Ministry of Ontario Bridges – Central Welding & Iron Works – Frank's team is working on the fourth bridge for Jim Chaput at Central Welding. Our limited experience with bridges has made them a challenge but also an enjoyable change. I would like to thank Jim and Eric at Central for giving us the opportunity to work with them. We are looking forward to a long relationship with Central Welding.
Toronto South Detention Centre - Norak Steel Construction Ltd. – A fast paced schedule from the start, Tino's team is moving forward. This project contains numerous structures. It would be great to work with Tim Rawding's team on further structures within this facility.
Although the struggle continues to secure projects, we are happy to have been able to keep relatively busy throughout this recession. This would not have happened without such great customers and the hard working team at Dowco.
