World Trade Center, Tower One
Eva Pohoriljakova, Project Leader
One World Trade Center, known as Freedom Tower, is the main building of the new World Trade Center. The tower will be located in the northwest corner of the World Trade Center site, in Lower Manhattan in New York City. The tower will be 1776 feet high, marking 1776, the year of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence.
One World Trade Center includes 2.6 million square feet of office space, restaurant, broadcast and antenna facilities. Construction began in April 2006 and is estimated for completion in April 2013.
In January 2008, Dowco was awarded from DCM Erectors the contract to detail the World Trade Center Tower One–Area-3 and 6. The steel fabricators are ADF, MRP and Niagara Structural.
Area 3 includes floors 20 through 40 with approximately 9200 tons of steel and Area 6 includes Floors 81 through 100 with approximately 6400 tons of steel The tower is square in plan at 20th floor and as the tower rises the edges are chamfered and form an octagon in plan. Dowco is close to completing the detailing of this project.
Challenging connections include, but are not limited to, connections to node columns and moment connections of spandrel beams to sloping, corner columns. The connection design has been done by DPHV, CDS & ASDA. We have sent updated models to DCM on a regular basis to help them monitor this project. It hopefully helped provide a good insight on the connections and revisions.
There have been numerous bulletins and connection revisions issued for this project. I would like to thank everyone involved in this project for a great job keeping up with all changes and revisions.
It has been an enjoyable project thanks to our customer, DCM Erectors, especially their project co-coordinator Paul Simpson.
