C.E.O. Report
Hugh Dobbie, RSD, AScT., MBA.
2009 has been one of the most difficult years we have experienced in some time. We have bid an enormous amount of projects and there is a huge amount still "on hold". Walter Skwarchuk, our Chief Estimator, has been doing a fantastic job keeping on top of all these bids.
In our last issue of Details, we announced the amalgamation of the Maple Ridge office with the Surrey office, after the opening of the new Golden Ears Bridge. We have since concluded the sale of the 16,000 square foot Maple Ridge office to a church group….one less headache and a welcome boost to our cash flow.
Because of the delays in jobs being awarded, we have regrettably been forced into some staff layoffs. It is our objective to have those employees back on staff early in the new year.
The current "down time" has provided an opportunity for staff to utilize Dowco's numerous training programs. Today's clients require projects on time, on budget and 100% accurate. A highly trained staff will meet these objectives.
Our staff have experienced a difficult and challenging year, and have done a tremendous job in expediting projects. We appreciate their dedication in this time of pressure.
My wife and I take this opportunity to wish our staff and clients a Merry Christmas, and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
