The Triumph Street Dowco Pipe Band
Hugh Dobbie, Chairman and C.E.O.

When I was a youth in Scotland, I spent many years as side drummer in a pipe band. I loved the camaraderie, the discipline, and above all the music.
When our grandchildren came along, and Susan and I babysat them, I would play my pipe band music tapes and the kids would have fun marching in time round the coffee tables, along the halls and all through the house.
Some of my enthusiasm must have rubbed off, for our oldest grandson Trevor decided he would like to be a piper. I was thrilled to buy him his first set of bagpipes. He has been playing for Simon Fraser University’s Robert Malcolm Memorial (RMM) Pipe Band for several years now. His 11 year old sister Kimmy joined the band just last year, and this year was awarded the Most Promising Piper trophy at the RMM Piping and Drumming Camp held this summer in Vernon, BC.
It should come as no surprise to anyone who knows of my love for pipe bands that when an opportunity rose to sponsor one, I listened closely.
Dowco is pleased to announce that we are sponsoring the Triumph Street Pipe Band. The band will now be known as the Triumph Street Dowco Pipe Band.
The band is a top level competitive and concert band, based in Greater Vancouver, B.C. In the 1970s and early 1980s, the band ranked among the best in the world and was the first band from outside of Scotland to win a major prize at the World Championships in 1979.
In 2007, Pipe Major David Hilder, Lead Drummer Andre Tezzier, and Pipe Sergeant Shaunna Hilder, were asked to lead a new edition of the Triumph Street Pipe Band. They drew an infusion of talent from the 2006 Grade 2 World Champion Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band, with the majority of its members holding multiple World Pipe Band Championship titles at the Juvenile, Grade 2 and Grade 1 levels.
The newly emerged Triumph Street Pipe Band recently won the 2007 Grade 2 North American Pipe Band Championship and the 2007 Grade 2 B.C. Pipers’ Association Grand Aggregate Award, and has recently returned from an Eastern Canada tour.
