Featured Project : Sacramento International Airport - Central Terminal B
Domenico Papandrea, Project Manager

Known as the "city of trees," Sacramento's tree lined streets provide shade from the region's vibrant sun.  Shadows contrast with sunlight filtering through the canopy above, offering a natural rhythm to the landscape.

Sacramento International Airport's Central Terminal B will embody the region's "Sense of Place."  The central landside terminal is the centerpiece of the facility, with raised roof lines framed by overhead structural members.  Natural light filtering in from above creates and reinforces movement throughout the facility.

Schuff Steel (Phoenix) awarded this 4450 ton project to Dowco in September 2008. With client drawings incomplete and the recession hitting the U.S. market, we faced numerous obstacles.  With pressure to provide shop fabrication drawings and receiving behind schedule final construction drawings in March 2009, we were confronted with severe challenges.

Dowco works hard to achieve the impossible, however, and we successfully completed our scope of work two months prior to the September 1, 2009 installation date.  With over 5600 fabrication drawings provided to Schuff Steel, shop calls have been at a minimal 0.02% to date. It required enormous team work to make this happen and special thanks go to all those who worked on this project.

Success came with some bumps along the road. For some these seemed disastrous, but bumps are inevitable.  The necessary team work involved some individuals from Schuff Steel - Mike Filson, Gary Osipov and Eddie Jones must be thanked for their professionalism in coordination, document control and shop production, Leanne Manning for her patience with quality control of drawings and Jake Doherty for his aggressive project management skills that kept us on our toes.
