I was born and raised in Montreal, Que. As a youth, I joined the army and served in WW2. When I returned to civilian life, Thelma and I resumed our pre-war courtship, got married and were blessed with four beautiful children.

I worked from 1946 to 1964 as a Structural Steel Detailer, Checker and Estimator. I also co-owned a small fabrication shop for a short while. During these years, I became good friends with Nerino Corbella and Eddy Dorini, also Structural Steel Detailers. The three of us decided we were ready for change, and Vancouver became our destination of choice. In Vancouver we worked at a local steel fabricator (where I met Hugh). After time we investigated the possibility of branching out on our own. We all wanted to enjoy family life and have time to appreciate our surroundings, but none of us aspired to operate a large detailing house. We formed a small company called GNE ENGINEERING LTD (Gordon, Nerino and Eddy…pretty clever, we thought) and even talked to Hugh about joining us, but it wasn’t to be.

At GNE, we hired capable, talented individuals (including of course, Scott) and shared a happy work environment till I retired in 1986. Clients became friends and many remain so to this day. Hugh and I also remained friends and I was extremely pleased when Scott and Sean joined the Dowco team. Best of luck to you all!
