I was born in 1980 in Richmond B.C. As a child I was encouraged to play with Lego, Kinex and Construx (and see now I was taught early to think spatially, to build and create structures). At 10, to earn money for toys and hockey gear that I wanted, my father found work for me at N.C. Engineering. I stood in front of the ammonia print machine, gas mask on, making sure all the blueprints were of the highest quality. By the time I was 12, my job was upgraded to line checking. I hated the line checking, but liked the extra spending money.
Growing up, during summer breaks I worked at N.C. - printing, shipping, receiving; typical junior stuff. During these summer practicums, several senior detailers encouraged me to make detailing my profession. After high school, as the detailing business was experiencing a shift away from 2D to the new 3D format, I was offered the opportunity to train in 3D using SDS/2. I did so, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was then re-introduced to Frank Murray and Robin Pycock, who had started Pacific Northwest Detailing Ltd. With my 3D training and knowing Frank and Robin from my time at N.C., I was offered a position as junior draftsman, the idea being I would start at the bottom and work my way up. I was trained “the old way”, “the math way”, “the hard way” and if you listen to old timers, “the proper way”.
During my years at Pacific Northwest, I took several AutoCAD courses. Robin and Frank were wonderful mentors and I was quickly whipped into shape. In 2003 my father became a partner at PND and we were able to work together again. We still worked mostly in 2D but I was often “exposed” to 3D software and wanted to learn more. In June 2008, I joined Dowco as a Project Manager. I can honestly say I have enjoyed (almost) every day here at Dowco and particularly enjoy working with my new colleagues. I strive to be kind, caring, positive and respectful of my colleagues as I truly believe you get what you give. I’d like to extend a big thank you to my father Scott, for setting such a high standard for being a man, a father and an excellent manager.
