Project Report : Ontario Office
Charlie Jenks, Office Manager (Toronto)

Charlie Jenks

It has been a busy few months in the Ontario office with a number of positive changes.  All the while we have been very busy with a number of projects –  most of which are all wrapping up at the same time.  Included in these projects are:

Antenna – World Trade Tower One (DCM Erectors) – As challenging and complex as this project is, Eva’s team led by Boris is charging through with very few issues.  It may seem unusual that the antenna is the priority on the project, but once you recognize the complexity and how many trades have to prepare and alter the sections to suit their own requirements, it makes it clear.

National Museum of American Jewish History (The Berlin Steel Company) – Eva’s group with John Kane at Berlin made this a successful and enjoyable project. Berlin used a number of fabricators on this project that tested our abilities to adapt to multiple detailing standards. It is a great pleasure working with Berlin and hope this is an on-going relationship

Maritza Unit#2 – Boiler (Alstom Power Systems) – Frank and his group have completed their area on this project. This project proved to be a great experience for all involved.  A different style of drafting for the majority of our team made this an exciting and demanding assignment. The entire office is looking forward to working on another project with Alstom.

601 City Center (Schuff Steel Company) – From the start, 2994 has proved to be a challenge for Dowco. Malcolm and Simon’s team in Whonnock had begun this project and with other projects being assigned to them, it was decided to move the project to our office with Don Shaver as project manager. A large number of design changes have pushed the schedule and forced a month and a half of extra work in its place. We will be back on track mid-January and moving up this 26 floor structure, with great challenges ahead in the upper floors and mechanical areas.

2009 “B” Furnace / Severstal (Dave Steel Co. Inc.) – By the time Details is printed this project will have been completed. A very tight schedule has moved this project along at a fast pace. Dave Steel had a very small window of opportunity to install this structure during a shut down and a Dec 29th deadline approached quickly. Eva’s group, including Andrei Bazzul and Yaghoub Khalichi, worked through the hurdles and made the date a reality. As with any industrial project, each day can bring new challenges which can also make the project very enjoyable.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy new year and hope it is prosperous for all.
