Project Report - Montreal
Gerard Courrier, Office Manager (Montreal)
December will see the end of the two contracts we have been working on for the last year. The Hatch project will flow into January, but for a copy check of the revised dwgs against the as-built set.
The John Jay College’s roof is the most complicated roof we ever worked on in thirty four years of detailing. The team is exhausted but we have finished the toughest part and we are on target to meet the delivery date. For a project this size, we were lucky not to have too many revisions, and working with Owen Steel’s experienced team made this a good project to detail.
The Hatch’s Onca Puma job doubled in time for us. Hatch gave us more than we first contracted for, and the project’s revisions makes this job tough to be on schedule. Working directly with an engineering firm is a first for our office, and we have learned a great deal from this experience. Hatch will maintain this cooperative format for future big projects, since they plan to double the tonnages of jobs being detailed.
We have pushed the moving date into our new office to February 1st due to a revision in the type of flooring. The hard wood of this ex racquetball facility was in need of repair, so we are mixing concrete and hardwood for a modern design flooring. This renovation is taking more time than I expected and from now on I won’t complain when I receive revisions to a contract, knowing how many I did myself.
We in Montreal wish all the steel community a prosperous 2008 and are anxious to see our move to Tekla Structures as an opportunity to work with our fellow team members of the Dowco group.
