Project Report - Whonnock
Malcolm Muir, Office Manager (Whonnock)

The Whonnock office is just starting a new project; the Women's and Children's Hospital at the Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento. We are working on this with The Herrick Corporation based in Stockton, California. This will be only our second project with this company; the first being The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, which we completed early in 2001.

We are also still working on the glass fascia support steel for the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino project located in Las Vegas, which we are doing for Schuff Steel in Phoenix.

This portion of the project presents some interesting challenges to our modelers and connectors, due to the complex nature of the geometry and this will no doubt translate into complex detailing and fabrication.

Despite having experienced our share of frustrations due to job revisions etc., the staff in Whonnock has had a satisfying year and have worked diligently to meet all demands and I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank them for making my working life so enjoyable.

This year, Dowco initiated a monthly "staff awards" program, which recognizes contributions in various categories; it has been my pleasure over the past several months to nominate the following people from the Whonnock office for one of these awards:

Cal Rodgers, Daisy Dong, Tom Blom, Christy Chien, Nofel Ibrahim, Simon Durkin, James Huish

I would like to offer my congratulations to them all and commend them for their continued efforts. I would also like to add that these are by no means the only people in this office deserving of such recognition, but I cannot nominate the entire office every month!
