C.I.S.C Board Meeting
Hugh Dobbie, Board Member
The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) held their Board Meeting at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, Toronto, Ontario, on November 16, 2007.
The meeting was well represented from all regions. The Marketing & Regional Reports were presented by each region, so the Board could view the various approaches to selling the CISC across Canada. Discussions of budgets, Annual General Meeting locations etc. took place.
It was reported that fabricators who rely on the U.S. market are facing difficulties landing work because of the rise of the Canadian dollar. Though Alberta has lots of work, this is being held up because of incomplete design drawings.
The CISC head office lease expires in August 2008, and much discussion ensued about which direction to take. A presentation was given by Michel Perreault of Cressa Partners, Corporate Real Estate Service Advisors, on several possible locations. (Michel helped Dowco renegotiate their current lease in Mississauga.)
The National Committee on Detailing had met the evening before and presented a resolution that all CISC Detailing Members be required to be certified through the NISD QPP (National Institute of Steel Detailers Quality Procedures Program) or ISO 9001. They will have two years to achieve this status. The CISC Fabricators are also required to be certified to a CISC approved Quality Program by 2009.
