Operations Corner
Wayne Morrison, Vice President

Crews have started work on several new projects, with more on the books for the New Year. New projects include the Echelon Expo Center in Las Vegas, NV for Hirschfeld Steel Co. Inc. and 40 floors, or about 40 percent, of the new Freedom Tower, New York, NY for DCM Erectors Inc. We also have projects for Schuff Steel Company, Strocal Inc , P.T. Freeport Indonesia, Herrick Corporation, Dave Steel Corporation, Sellen Construction and Zimmerman Metals Inc.

Canadian offices welcomed more new staff this fall: Min, Camille, Kevin, Joey, Joselito, Scott, John, Thilak and Dave. Welcome all! In January 2008, two more senior staff will join the team. John Meldrum returns to Dowco as office manager for Langley, while Scott MacKay has agreed to come out of retirement in early January 2008 to join the Dowco team in Burnaby as a Project Manager. Scott was a partner at NC Engineering before retiring.

In December, 2007 Ragnar Wessman and Tero Laine from Tekla Corporation’s head office in Finland visited the Burnaby office. The full day of discussion was extremely fruitful, with both parties sharing information about some of their current activities and how both companies see the North American building and construction market developing over the next few years.

The project to replace our existing project management and timesheet software is well underway with the first modules scheduled to come online at the end of March, 2008.

As 2007 draws to a close, I wish all our clients and staff a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.
