Another Year to Remember

This year marks Dowco’s 38th year in business. For me, this brings to mind youthful memories of a dedicated father whose work ethic still astounds me. I recall countless weekend office trips to pick up drawings, make blue prints, and even to perform necessary office renovations.

I remember his nightly work rituals at home and my mother’s years as Girl Friday, secretary, book-keeper et al. To this day, I’m not sure how my parents managed to coach us soccer, drive us all over the place to various activities, and build a business.

My dad taught us not just the value of hard work, but to appreciate what we have. Hugh and Susan Dobbie emigrated from Scotland in the 50’s in search of a better life. And I believe they’re the perfect example of what a better life means: a thriving business, friends and family who love them, and the promise of new and exciting opportunities ahead.

As I grew up, finished university, and became more involved in Dowco, my respect for my parents’ achievements increased. Dowco’s success was built on the depth of their time tested relationship. My mother Susan is a woman of great strength and commitment, whose input and dedication to the family and to the business is vital and never ending. My father’s prophetic business savvy has opened many new doors to other business opportunities that continue to fulfill his innovative and entrepreneurial vision.

Although still involved in the day to day operations of all the Dowco related companies, Hugh and Susan are now finding some time to relax, travel, and enjoy the harvest of their 37 years of ploughing through sometimes rocky ground. As members of the strong team Dowco has now become, we can be proud to carry the Dowco name and strive for success in a manner consistent with the integrity, ethics and dedication of the previous 37 years.

We have seen a great deal of change and growth over the past 37 years. I am confident that the years ahead will be just as remarkable.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all Dowco staff for being a part of the growing Dowco family and also for your efforts and for the contributions you make. I’d be remiss if I didn’t also extend our deep appreciation to our customers for believing in us and for allowing us to be of service.
