Featured Project: Monroe Power Plant
Eva Pohoriljakova, Project Leader
Dowco recently completed detailing of the Monroe Power Plant. This was another challenging job for Moran Iron Works Inc., Onaway, Michigan. Detailing for the project began in August '07 and was finished on time in December '07. Many thanks to Victor Ruppert, Moran's Project Manager. His friendly co-operation is greatly appreciated. This 1132 Imp. tons of ductwork was very demanding on detailing, consisting of Unit 3 and 4 with several separate segments structurally isolated by expansion joints, the booster fans, and the absorber vessel. The two units were mirror images of each other. The most difficult detailing was for segment FG-D2-C, with internal trusses and splitter plates dividing the duct work in different angles in both horizontal and vertical directions. The detailing was further complicated with temporary steel, lifting lugs and their structural support. Part of the contract involved catwalks and ladders.
The ductwork had several shop and field splices. The shop splices and sizes of the parts assembled at the shop were influenced by several factors, ie. size of the shop doors. The segments are being put together in Moran's barging facility and then transported to the site. At time of writing, Moran has already fabricated 75% of the ductwork, both Units 3 and 4.
All team members worked extremely hard to deliver the job on time. Many thanks to Edwin Nebrija, Mike Morrison, Orlando Gaspar, Andrei Bazzul, Horacio Talusan and especially Boris Pohoriljak, who led the project in my absence and has been dealing with Moran during the fabrication process.
