Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) Board Meeting
Hugh Dobbie

I attended the meeting of the CISC Board of Directors held April 11, 2008 in Toronto.

Several interesting topics were discussed. The new CISC Head Office has hired a new engineer and is contemplating hiring two additional engineers. Peter Timler, the Western Region's Executive Director, has been looking for additional help for several years. Hopefully the new staff will be able to provide him with assistance.

The minimum fee for fabricator membership was increased and a new rate for small fabricators (under $3M in sales) was proposed. CISC is looking at ways to increase revenues. Another plan is to reduce the Board from 30 to 20 members, with each member serving a maximum of three 2-year terms. This should bring new blood to the Board.

The CISC has rejuvenated the Marketing Committee with representatives from each Region. Alberta is still very busy and Saskatchewan will be busy also with over $1 B in projects over the next few years.

With the Canadian dollar almost at par with the US dollar, work in the U.S. is growing more difficult to obtain.
