Project Report: Surrey/Langley Office - Tulsa Event Center Arena
Doug McGillivray
Dowco has recently been awarded detailing of the Tulsa Event Center Arena project, located in Tulsa, Okalahoma. The fabricator is Schuff Mid West, Kansas City, MO and we are pleased to be working again with Schuff’s staff. The project is being led by Schuff’s Project Manager, Earl Horton. The lead Architect for the project is world-famous architect Cesar Pelli, who is part of the team headed by the Tulsa architectural and engineering firm, Matrix, and North Carolina’s Odell Associates. The Structural steel design team is Thornton-Tomasetti Engineers in Kansas City, MO.
The $183-million Tulsa Event Center and 18,000 seat arena is expected to open in the spring of 2008.
This challenging project has been described as “The Project of the Century for Tulsa”. The ultimate aim is to create a facility so dynamic, even unique, that it will itself become an attraction, beyond the events being held inside.
The newly opened Langley (Surrey) office has taken up the challenge of not only coming together as a new team but also of taking on one of the most challenging and unique arenas in all of North America. The modeling is well underway and as expected, this is proving to be a highly challenging project.
