Meet Our Staff: Thomas Blom (Whonnock)

I was born in Maple Ridge in 1984, grew up in Pitt Meadows and graduated from Pitt Meadows Secondary School in 2002.  After high school I worked as a mill worker making parts for stairs and railings. This was my part-time job while attending BCIT.  Also, I worked at a golf course maintaining the golf carts and picking the range for golf balls, and there I learned to play golf.   I played every day for free after or before work….a great experience learning on a par 72 course!  I also worked for a short time as a cook in Burnaby. We fed close to 200 people a night and that’s where I learned to cook.

 I enrolled in the Structural Drafting and Design program at the BCIT and enjoyed drafting so enrolled in the Architectural Drafting and Design program the following year.

 I joined Dowco that year in May and have worked in the Whonnock office since that time. We are currently working on the Cosmopolitan Resort and Casino, a very interesting project.

At BCIT I was involved in floor and ice hockey with my classmates.  We worked hard and did well.  I have played hockey for the past 18 years and currently play in a men’s league. I enjoy watching the quarter mile races at Mission raceway.  I also take every any opportunity to get away and go camping.  I am about to visit Mexico with my girlfriend and some family at the end of March and I hope to be able to travel more often.   I hope also to be able to see Canada and Europe in the next few years.

I look forward to the future and am always looking for a new challenge. I also wish everyone the best and look forward to continuing to work with the company and the staff at the Whonnock office.
