Dowco recognizes that training is critical to employee morale and the effective operation of the company. The Dowco Training Manager works closely with technical support staff and senior management to design and update our staff training and development programs. All staff have Intranet-based access to a comprehensive set of instructor-led, self-study and computer-based training, designed to enhance their existing skills and to help them to acquire new ones.

In 2008, Dowco Educational Services Ltd. was formed to create online training programs targeted to the Steel industry. Three Internet-based training programs are offered through the Dowco Learning Network. This includes:

1. Detailing for Steel Construction: Delivered in conjunction with the AISC this course focuses on detailing fundamentals.
2. Tekla Structures Basic Online Training: Endorsed by Tekla this course provides beginner detailer training.
3. Connection Design for Structural Steel: This advanced course for senior detailers and engineers is based on CISC standards.

Our dedication to training extends far beyond our own company. Hugh Dobbie Snr. is a member of the Advisory Committees at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Vancouver Community College, and Cariboo College, BC. Dowco also recognizes the importance of software in the precise work of steel detailing. In recent years the company has donated 20 licenses of Tekla Structures software to 2 of these institutions to use in their steel detailing training programs.
